Through the window: the stained glass windows of the early F. Lloyd Wright’s Prairie Houses. The Steffens House, a testimony in the heart of Madrid.
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article is organised into three sections. The first section takes a tour of Wright’s domestic architecture from 1893 to 1909, highlighting aspects of the theory and symbology of the Prairie Houses for the new North American society. The second section outlines Wright’s point of view about the industrialisation of applied arts, especially as seen in the stained glass windows of the early houses. The article ends with a study of the stained glass windows of Steffens House, even though it was considered a minor work, it condenses all the characteristics of Wright's design from the early stages.
