Saint Euphrasius’ three-piece suit from Jaén catedral and other examples from the diocese of Jaén made by Molero’s workshop
Main Article Content
Abstract
Agustín Rubín de Ceballos, bishop of Jaén between 1780 and 1793, was the art promoter of the Jaén Cathedral, as well the rest of the churches of the entire province. His devotion for San Eufrasio, patron saint of the diocese, led him to order several works in his honour; noteworthy a chapel under his name and a three – piece suit for the celebration of his saint day. This ensemble, realised by the Toledan manufacture of Miguel Gregorio Molero in 1789 which has been studied for the first time through this investigation, based on an important documentary contribution which tells the origin hereof. In turn, it has been compared with other three – piece suit preserved in Villacarrillo, Baeza and Jaén in order to contextualize stylistically the liturgical vestments which this study focuses attention on."
