Oil on cardboard: two small portraits of Charles II (by Van Kessel II) and Maria Anna of Neuburg at the National Museum of Decorative Arts
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work looks into two interesting pieces of small-scale portraits (oil on cardboard) that have been lately acquired by the Museo de Artes Decorativas. They both stand out for their artistic quality as for their historical significance. One represents Carlos II, is dated ca. 1690 and is attributed to Jan van Kessel II. The second one shows Mariana of Neoburg as a widow and maintains its original mount of gold and emeralds.
