Charlotte Perriand: defining an environment for the Modern inhabitant
Main Article Content
Abstract
Charlotte Perriand's career demonstrates a continuous quest to define a living environment for the modern inhabitant. This article sets out to demonstrate how this notion of ‘ambience’, understood as the creation of an integral experience for the user, constitutes the guiding thread of her career. Through the study of key examples, her constant creativity and her profound sense of observation are highlighted. The main fields of activity of the designer are addressed: the execution of projects and works of architecture, the design of pieces of furniture and the dissemination of her ideas through articles and exhibitions. Three strategic lines are established that, interlinked, give shape to a work in permanent evolution and reveal the complexity of a figure who contributed to defining the way of inhabiting in the twentieth century.
