Abstract

This article aims to emphasize Rafael Doménech Gallisá’s figure, a theorist and art critic, jurist and the first director of the Museo Nacional de Artes Industriales (MNAI) (currently Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas). His activity and work defending the so-called industrial arts, make sense in the context of the influence of philosophy and doctrine of Karl Krause and the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, in the transition from XIX to XX century. Doménech’s ideas expressed in articles, lectures and different publications, achieved significance with the creation of MNAI collection since 1912: a project which led by him with the support of Luis Pérez Bueno and Francisco Pérez Dolz.
