Flemish Tapestries brought by Alfonso Pérez De Guzmán (1549-1615), VII Duke of Medina Sidonia, to Milan when he was appointed Governor and Captain General in 1581
Main Article Content
Abstract
When the Dukes of Medina Sidonia were appointed Governor and Captains General of Milan by the successive Kings, they undertook extremely expensive journeys from their palace in the city of Sanlúcar de Barrameda to Milan, taking with them not only their servants, but also their jewels, silver objects and best tapestries. The archive of the Medina Sidonia Foundation contains abundant unpublished information on these journeys. An example is that of the Seventh Duke in the year 1581.
